1. This Competition is being organised by The Orion Publishing Group Limited (the ‘Publisher’), Carmelite House, 50 Victoria Embankment, London EC4Y 0DZ (“Our London Office”).
2. This Competition is for the chance to be invited to our London Office on Tuesday 24th November 2026 to attend our Design Festival aimed at demystifying the publishing industry for designers from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds (the ‘Prize’). The Design Festival will be limited to 30 attendees.
3. To enter the Competition, please provide the information requested and answer why you would like to attend the festival and submit PDF samples of your work or link to your portfolio. No purchase is necessary to enter.
4. The winners of the Competition (the ‘Winner’) will be selected from the valid entries received in accordance with these Terms and Conditions based on the following criteria: Portfolio or work samples that show potential and keen interest in cover design and or design for publishing from a designer perspective or illustration perspective. The Winners will be selected by three art directors (employees of The Orion Publishing Group Limited) and independent visual artist Kingsley Nebechi, whose decision will be final. No correspondence will be entered into.
5. This competition is only open to those who are from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds. Entrants must be aged 18 or over and resident in the United Kingdom. The Competition is not open to employees of the Publisher, their families, or to anyone professionally connected to the Competition either themselves or through their families.
6. Entries may only be submitted between 12:01am BST on Friday 25th September 2026 and 11.59pm BST on Friday 16th October 2026. Any entries received outside these specified times and dates and any entries that do not meet the requirements of these Terms and Conditions will not be eligible for entry to the Competition.
7. An entrant may only submit one entry. Further entries will be disqualified. Entries will not be accepted via agents, third parties or in bulk.
8. The Publisher is not responsible for contacting or responding to entrants who provide unclear or incomplete information or for entries that are lost, misdirected, delayed or destroyed.
9. The Publisher reserves the right to (i) cancel the Competition; (ii) alter the details of the Prize and/or (iii) alter any other details of the Competition without notice but the Publisher will try to avoid creating any undue disappointment. No cash alternative or other alternatives to the Prize will be provided.
10. If a Winner is unable to accept their Prize or cannot be contacted, the Publisher reserves the right to select another entrant to receive the Prize.
11. Each Winner’s name may be published on the Publisher’s website and social Unless a Winner objects, the Publisher will make available the name of each Winner to anyone who requests this information by writing to the Publisher at the address shown above.
12. The Publisher will pay for the Winner’s cost of travel to Our London Office on the date of the Design Festival up to a maximum of £50 (the ‘Travel Contribution’). The Travel Contribution will be paid within 30 days of receipt by Publisher from the Winner of (i) proof of the cost of travel and (ii) the Winner’s details for payment. Except for the Travel Contribution, no costs or expenses will be met by the Publisher in connection with the Prize.
13. Any personal data submitted by entrants, including their names and email addresses (the ‘Information’), will be used by the Publisher (who is the Data Controller) for the purposes of this Competition, including without limitation for the purpose of running the Competition and arranging and/or delivering the Prize, in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and in accordance with Publisher’s Privacy Notice which can be found here https://www.orionbooks.co.uk/landing-page/privacy-notice-general-orion/ . The Information will be deleted within six months of the Design Festival.
14. By submitting their entry, entrants represent and warrant that: (i) their entry is their own original work, was not created or edited using artificial intelligence programmes including but not limited to Chat GPT, Clause or any other AI creation or editing tool; (ii) nothing in their entry is defamatory, private or an infringement of copyright or other intellectual property right or in any way a breach of another’s right; (iii) if a third party’s material is used in the entry, the entrant has secured all necessary permissions for this use. The Publisher reserves the right to ask for the permission before any prize is distributed. Any entry in breach of this clause will be disqualified from participating in the Competition and from winning any prize.
15. By entering the Competition, entrants hereby grant to the Publisher an irrevocable, perpetual, royalty free, worldwide and for all languages, licence to copy, adapt, edit, distribute, publish, sublicense, and in any and all other ways use their entry for any purpose, in any manner and in all media now known or hereinafter devised. Furthermore, entrants waive all moral rights whatsoever in their entry. For the avoidance of doubt, the Publisher is under no obligation to make any use of the entries and the Publisher shall make no payment to any entrant for any use of their entry.
16. By entering the Competition, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
17. These Terms and Conditions and any disputes or claims (including non-contractual disputes or claims) arising out of these Terms and Conditions shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of England, whose courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
