‘Writers need to adopt a sense of real responsibility towards their work’

How can writers motivate themselves to start writing?

As unpleasant as it is, I think that all budding writers need to adopt a sense of real responsibility towards their work. Whatever project a writer is dreaming up is theirs alone to develop – no one else is going to do it. Have an original idea for a novel, or a slant on language you think is peculiar to you, or a twist in an old tale? Well, that idea will stay an idea – private and shapeless – till you actually sit down and flex your fingers.
