‘Editing is really where the fun starts’

How important is it to edit your work?

Editing is really where the fun starts. Once you have all the pieces in place, you can start moving them around and ‘prettying’ your work. My first drafts tend to be functional and plot-driven. When editing, you can really work on finding the character’s distinct voice. By this stage you really know them and have a sense for what they would and wouldn’t say or do.
