‘Writing “badly” but with vigour is the best way’

Do you check grammar and spelling as you go along, or afterwards?

I tend to check things at the end of the day when I read through all I’ve written. But I have no set rules about this. Sometimes I tinker with sentences when the morning’s work is slow. It becomes about engagement then. But I’m careful not to overwork a sentence in the early drafts. A keen sense of avoidance and unattainable perfection can highlight time-wasting and procrastination. For me, writing ‘badly’ but with vigour is the best way.
