HistoryKit is an interactive digital resource that teaches students the skills they need to handle sources and interpretations. Students are carefully guided through four stages, to reduce cognitive load and increase confidence.
> Look or Read. Students start by taking time to look at/read the source or interpretation, as well as the provenance. Short audio clips provide contextual information.
> Discover. The source or interpretation now has hotspots/highlights, which students can click to reveal further information, building their knowledge.
> Analyse. At this stage, hotspots/highlights get students thinking about what they have seen and read, with short-answer questions and self-marking knowledge tests to check their understanding.
> Practise. Exam-style questions help you to assess students’ understanding of the source/interpretation, their contextual knowledge and their ability to make substantiated judgements. Each question has ‘how to answer’ tips for students and answer guidance for teachers.
